    Job Description

    Welders are required to weld structural assemblies using GMAW and SMAW during fabrication and installation sequence of submarine construction. Welding at Electric Boat is performed on a wide variety of materials, using an ever growing number of welding processes. Qualification is required for each process, as welders participate in continuous training in new and traditional welding processes using both conventional and state of the art equipment. Assignments will also include use of various pneumatic tools such as grinders, burr tools, wire brushes, etc. Oxy/fuel pre-heat and carbon/arc gouging duties will be performed as well as verifying weld size using weld gauges. Applicants will be required to read and interpret weld symbols, technique sheets and work packages.

    Education/ Experience

    High school diploma/GED preferred. Additional preference given for Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs.


    Seeking all skill levels: Previous welding experience is preferred. Previous experience in manual and/or semi-automatic welding processes is preferred.  Previous experience working in the construction industry or a manufacturing environment is desired. Military/Navy experience preferred. Previous metal fabrication experience and military shipbuilding experience is preferred.


    Applicant must apply for a DoD security clearance as a condition of employment. Must possess basic mathematical, communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to interpret welding and shipyard procedures, structural drawings, technical manuals, test documents and diagrams desired. Must be able to work all shifts, at heights, confined spaces and extreme temperature conditions as required. Must be able to pass destructive bend weld test and meet minimum visual acceptance requirements. Must be able to read and interpret company policies and procedures.  Applicant will be required to work in a collaborative and team environment and meet organizational goals. Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools.
