    Job Description

    The Outside Electrician should possess electrical knowledge/experience.  Job responsibilities include the following:

    • Fabricate and install wire-way hangers, stud shooting, install bulkhead stuffing tubes and various sizes and types of cables (thru and local) for lighting, communications, control, power, electronics, nuclear and weapons systems
    • Installation of components (terminal boxes, switches, controllers, wiring harnesses, cabinets etc.) for the various electrical systems.
    • Install main power switchboards and electrical nuclear equipment, cut in and hookup cables for installed components and installation and hook-up of ship's lightingi
    • Install / build and test fiber optic systems

     

    Education/ Experience

    Seeking all skill levels:

    • Previous electrical experience and/or electrical training is required
    • Blueprint/electrical schematic reading and interpretation skilled preferred
    • Electrical Trades Training/basic electrical knowledge preferred; No electrical license required 
    • High school diploma/GED preferred; additional preference given for Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
    • Individuals who are either enrolled or have completed the Shipbuilding/Marine Advanced Manufacturing Institute (SAMI) program or individuals who are signed up with Network RI /RI Department of Labor and Training are highly desired
    • Military/Navy experience preferred

    Skills

    Applicant must apply for a DoD security clearance as a condition of employment
    Must possess proficient, communication and interpersonal skills
    Ability to interpret electrical  and shipyard procedures, electrical schematics, technical manuals, test documents and diagrams desired
    Must be able to work all shifts and present for all scheduled work shifts, heights, confined spaces and extreme temperature conditions as required
    Applicant will be required to work in a collaborative and team environment and meet organizational goals
    Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools
    This position is physically demanding and requires the individual to be able to frequently carry up to 25 lbs. and push/pull more than 25 lbs
