    Job Description

    The Medical Assistant/EMT assists in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of the Medical Director, Physician Assistant, Registered Nurse, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and Audiologist.

    Responsibilities include: 

     

    Front Desk:

    • Interviews patients, measures vital signs and records information on patient's charts and enters data into the electronic health record, Occupational Health Manager, (OHM)
    • Handles Intake for injury care, Workmen's Compensation documentation, return to work and medical surveillance
    • Answers phone calls, receives and process fax documents, scans documents into electronic health record
    • Updates and files patient's medical records, handles correspondence, schedules appointments, and arranges for hospital admission and laboratory services as needed 
    • Discharges patients

    Laboratory:

    • May be required to draw and collect blood samples (finger stick and venous) from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
    • May perform basic laboratory tests on the premises, dispose of contaminated supplies and sterilize medical equipment
    • Conduct urine and hair drug testing

    Back Office: 

    • May be responsible for explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination and assisting the Physician/Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner during the examination 
    • Respond to Information and Medical records requests from attornies, employees and state agencies
    • Conduct daily sanitary check of clinic facilities, sharps containers, hydrocollator units, EKG machine and autoclaving of instruments 
    • Ensure eye wash OSHA compliance 
    • Send soiled laundry for cleaning

    General: 

    • Conduct CAOHC certified audiological testing 
    • Serve as Wellness Team Member, attending Health Fairs and other Wellness events
    • Disctribute supplements and vitamins as required 
    • Enter Wellness biometric data into electronic medical recor
    • Track supply utilization and assist in ordering office and medical supplies
    • Assist RADCON program administrator in compliance with P-5055 
    • Assist and take direction from the clinical providers ( Medical Director, PA-C's, APRN's, RN's and Audiologist in performing their professional duties 

    Education/ Experience

    Required:

    • High school diploma and Medical Assistant or EMT certification

     

    Preferred:

    • Two to five years related experience 

    Skills

    • Must possess sufficient computer skills to interact within an electronic medical record
    • Must maintain or be willing/capable to be certified in NIOSH respirator clearance; OSHA/CAOHC hearing conservation program; D.O.T. urine drug collection; hair collection and breath alcohol testing (BAT) testing
    • Must be available for shift variations due to patient volume demands
    • Must be willing to work in either the New London or Groton clinic
    • Must possess a customer service attitude and willingness to work as a member of a collaborative supportive group.
