    Job Description

    Applicant will work with other Cost Engineers to produce cost proposals supporting business decisions for new VIRGINIA Program procurements, COLUMBIA Class Program, Overhaul and Repair, CONFORM, and various other engineering and construction programs. Applicant will also frequently interface with respective program offices and engineering departments to fully understand the work scope and develop associated detailed labor hour and material cost estimates.

     

    Specifically, the applicant will:

    • Analyze returned costs in support of developing standard cost estimating relationships used in support of proposal development and trade-off studies
    • Work with management and Contracts to ensure solicitation requirements are understood and satisfied or effectively addressed
    • Support proposal fact-finding activities and contract negotiations as required
    • Support general analytical activities such as forecasting, budget performance analysis, capital and process improvement expenditures, as well as other special assignments

    Education/ Experience

    Required:

    • Bachelor degree
    • Proficiency with Excel, including Pivot Tables and lookup functions

    Preferred:

    • 2-plus years of related experience in Program Management or Engineering  or Finance or Purchasing
    • Proven ability to analyze data with minimal supervision

    Skills

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel is required; the position will require the applicant to manipulate large sets of historical data and to develop comprehensive spreadsheets to estimate costs with strong attention to detail
    • Applicant should possess a considerable level of initiative and organizational skills and be a team player
    • Strong written and verbal skills are required to ensure clear communications with the customer as well as throughout the Corporation
    • Ability to handle information with the proper level of discretion and to review and understand technical documents is required
    • Position requires the ability to climb through and observe all areas of ships during construction/repair, support occasional travel, and work extended hours and weekends, as needed
