    Job Description

    The IT Software Engineering Group is seeking a highly motivated, cross functional senior software developer to join a team of like-minded people pushing the boundaries of available applications for submarine design, manufacturing and construction. From initial concept design through implementation, you will be working with product stakeholders, designers and engineers from various disciplines (electrical, mechanical, structural, piping, arrangements and ventilation) to define the best practical application to suit the needs of the customer/end-user as well as be innovative, impactful and cost beneficial to the company and other organizations alike. You will be using the latest commercial off-the-shelf technologies (software and/or hardware) and utilize its capabilities to create variety of custom applications to support submarine manufacturing world. You will grow your skills, work with the cutting edge technologies and introduce new tools and techniques to the team. There are plenty of opportunities for leadership growth as well. You will work in an environment that encourages creative thinking and novel solutions to continuously challenging problems. You will be creating software applications that make our company work effectively and efficiently at what we do – which is designing and constructing the world’s finest submarines for the United States Navy.

     

    Responsibilities Include:

    • Requirements gathering, analysis and detail design for software application
    • Break down high level business needs into discrete development items
    • Development of software applications (typically java applications)
    • Promoting strict code peer review practices as well as testing and validation to ensure high-quality coding standards 
    • Maintenance of software applications throughout the lifecycle of the product
    • Investigation of advanced IT and software development technologies

    Education/ Experience

    Required:

    • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or equivalent technical degree
    • 5-10 years of related experience in developing software applications (using Java preferred)
    • Must have a good understanding of the agile principles and scrum methodology
    • Must have an enthusiasm for working in high performing team environment and collaborating with customers and end-users to define scope and design
    • Must be experienced in test driven development

    Preferred:

    • Java Development experience

    Skills

    Desired Skills:

    • Skills in Java, along with relational and object-oriented databases
    • Must be self-motivated to learn new skills for solving complex/challenging problems
    • Ability to work on a team and/or independently
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
