    Job Description

    Pipe Welders perform welding functions on all submarine piping systems materials, including bi-metallic welds in all positions according to weld procedures using GTAW. 

    • Welds include butts, sockets, boss roots, weldolets and fillets
    • Consumes an E.B. insert to form the root pass of a butt weld, performs  X magnification visual inspection of pipe welds, and weld repair of excavated areas of pipe welds
    • May operate automatic TIG fixed head and orbital automatic welding equipment
    • Performs a visual inspection of finished welds according to (SSP 3.11)

    Education/ Experience

    Entry level position:

    • Pipe welding training and/or experience utilizing the TIG (GTAW) welding process is preferred
    • TIG welding training or experience is required
    • Knowledge of welding procedures and various types of welding equipment is required
    • Military/Navy related experience is preferred
    • High School Diploma/GED preferred; additional preference given for Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
    • Must pass an Electric Boat socket and X-Ray butt test and SSP 3.11 test per training requirements
    • Some lifting will be required; candidates must be able to work in horizontal, vertical and overhead positions

     

    Skills

    • Applicant must apply for a DoD security clearance as a condition of employment
    • Must possess basic mathematical, communication and interpersonal skills
    • Must be able to read and interpret welding and shipyard procedures, structural drawings, technical manuals, test documents and diagrams desired
    • Must be able to work all shifts, at heights, confined spaces (in-tank welding) and extreme temperature conditions (cold, heat) as required
    • Applicant will be required to work in a collaborative and team environment and meet organizational goals
    • Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools
