    Job Description

    Responsibilities:

    Department 425, Electrical Systems Software Engineering, engineers apply software and computer engineering skills to specify, design, develop, integrate, and test, as well as subcontract manage software development for US Navy Nuclear Submarines.  Collaborating with systems and hardware engineers, submarine software is developed and maintained for a variety of submarine platforms and electrical systems for the propulsion and electric plant, as well as hull, mechanical, and electrical systems. 

     

    What You'll Do:

    • Define requirements, design and develop test platforms for the qualification of shipboard application software.
    • Define requirements and design, develop, and test software applications for multiple platforms.
    • Define requirements, design and develop modeling and emulation software, including electric and steam plant modeling, for the test environment.
    • Enhance existing software to fix defects, support new or changing hardware, or improve features and performance.
    • Effectively communicate with design team including, engineers, programmers, and project managers to define project requirements and manage timelines.
    • Other duties as needed.

    Education/ Experience

    Qualifications:

    A Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent technical degree is required.  A Master’s degree in these areas is desirable.

     

    Zero to four years of experience is preferred relevant to this job description.  The following skills are required:  C/C++, Java, hardware/software design, software code and test, hardware/software integration.  The following skills are desirable:  Modeling/simulation, shell scripting, Real-Time Operating Systems, LabVIEW, Visual Studio, Team Foundation Server, GIT, Wonderware, Kepware, Historian, relational and object-oriented databases, configuration management, requirements analysis.

     

    The candidate must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and technical writing skills, including the ability to write and analyze software requirements.  Candidate must be highly motivated, perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations in an engineering environment and be able to work with Capability Maturity Model Integrated (CMMI) Level 3 processes.  Attention to detail is required.
