D463 - Solid Mechanics - Engineers will provide full structural engineering expertise to the submarine design organizations within Electric Boat. This expertise covers many areas including structural analysis, analysis methodology development, development and maintenance of structural engineering software, and structural technology development. Candidates are also needed to support research and development in computational structural acoustics. Analyses are performed using state-of-the-art computer models that run on an extensive network of work stations and super computers. Knowledge of finite element analysis, steel design techniques and/or advanced mechanics of materials is required for this position. Additional duties for analysis positions include preparation of technical reports and presentations, and interfacing with design, testing and fabrication departments.
A Bachelor of Science degree in civil (structural), mechanical, aeronautical engineering or related technical degree is required.
Zero to four years of related engineering experience
A Masters degree in these areas is highly desirable

Candidate must be highly motivated, perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations in an engineering environment. Demonstrable skills and proficiency in the technical areas noted is required.
