Job Description

Mechanical Inspectors are required to perform mechanical inspection duties in various inspection areas throughout the facility.

  • Every inspector will be required to obtain certification in Mechanical Pretest
  • Every inspector will be required to obtain certification in NDT (MT. PT, ET)
  • Types of inspections will or may include visual, dimensional, and nondestructive test attributes
  • Inspectors will also be required to verify and certify work is complete and satisfactory according to specifications and record and report inspection results
  • The successful candidate must be able to work all shifts, weekends and overtime as required

Education/ Experience

Semi-Skilled/Skilled position:

  • 1+ year of mechanical inspection, mechanical test, or mechanical manufacturing experience in required
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints is required
  • Previous shipyard or manufacturing experience is required
  • Previous NDT experience is desired
  • Must be available to work all shifts
  • 2+ years of previous inspection/quality assurance experience is desired
  • Knowledge of shipboard assemblies, installations and foundations is preferred
  • Previous metal fabrication experience and military shipbuilding experience is preferred
  • High school diploma/GED preferred; additional preference given for Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs

 

 

Skills

Applicants must apply for a DOD Security Clearance as a condition of employment. They may be required to obtain and maintain a final secret clearance to remain in this position.

  • Must possess basic mathematical, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work all shifts, heights, confined spaces and extreme temperature conditions as required
  • Applicant will be required to work in a collaborative and team environment and meet organizational goals
  • Applicant must be able to interpret technical manuals, shipyard procedures, test documents, blueprints, diagrams, and understand basic layout functions
  • Individuals may be required to possess their own basic hand tools
